CNAs working in hospitals and other inpatient facilities usually work shift work in much the same way as other members of the medical and nursing staff to provide 24 hour patient care. The rotating rosters provide for morning and afternoon shifts covering 7 days a week. Depending on locations, such working conditions may provide an extra loading on the usual hourly rate of pay to compensate for evening or weekend work. CNAs working in doctors surgeries or other medical facilities that provide work during business hours will receive a salary consistent with the type of service they are providing. The variation between in patient and outpatient and acute care and aged care facilities is minimal but can vary even between different similar jobs within the same type of care service. Casual rates are often higher than part time or full time rates and this may provide a more flexible option for staff choosing to work with a health care agency or relief pool of an inpatient service facility. Health care Awards in various countries and states will provide a different starting pay for new graduates. Once a graduate has some experience they are often able to proceed to better paying positions and to specialize in areas they feel are their niche. Each job should be seen as a stepping stone towards the work and the salary that a CNA feels suits their character and worth of their work.
